After years of anticipation, Spotify has officially launched Lossless audio streaming for Premium subscribers — and the best part is, it comes at no extra charge. This move puts Spotify on par with Apple Music, which has been offering lossless playback for years.
A Feature Announced Back in 2020
Spotify first teased its high-fidelity audio back in 2020, but the rollout kept getting delayed. Now, in 2025, the company is finally delivering on that promise. Subscribers can now stream music in FLAC quality at 24-bit/44.1 kHz.

For comparison, Apple Music still holds a technical advantage, offering up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Still, for millions of Spotify users, the jump to lossless is a huge upgrade from the current compressed formats.
How to Activate Lossless Audio in Spotify
Spotify won’t switch you to Lossless automatically — you need to enable it manually on each device. Here’s how:
- Open the Profile menu (tap the top-left icon in the app).
- Go to Settings → Audio Quality.
- Select Lossless for Wi-Fi, mobile streaming, or offline downloads.
- Once activated, a Lossless indicator will appear in the Now Playing screen or Connect Picker.
Where Is Lossless Available?
Currently, Spotify Premium users in the following countries can enjoy lossless streaming:
- Australia
- Austria
- Czech Republic
- Denmark
- Germany
- Japan
- New Zealand
- Netherlands
- Portugal
- Sweden
- USA
- United Kingdom
The company confirmed that 50 more countries will gain access in October 2025.
💰 Price Hike Context
This announcement comes just weeks after Spotify raised subscription prices worldwide. In Spain and Italy, for example, the monthly Premium plan jumped from €11 to €12 for new users.
Even so, the addition of lossless audio without an extra fee is a welcome surprise — especially as competitors often charge more for similar features.
